C042. Baer (p. 65). The Story of the Pigs

This is Chase042.

Types ATU0124 blowing the house in
ATU0123 Wolf and the Kids
Motifs K0891.1 wolf tricked into jumping down chimney
Notes
Harris compares to Theal's Demane and Demazana...also a human story; see intro to Nights

Baer: "Since Brother Rabbit and his children do not appear in the The Story of the Pigs, Harris had confused this tale with the Awful Fate of Mr. Wolf" Chase013

Baer refers to her notes on Chase013 for Crane and Owens on the European "Three Blue Pigs" which was unknown to Harris. She then remarks, "Had he been, he would not have included this tale in his collection."

=============

MY NOTES

I am not sure that I follow Baer's comments on this story, and she does not say anything about how it starts off with the different house materials as if it were ATU0123, but then it becomes all about letting the wolf in through the door as in ATU0124.
