Types
ATU0225 crane teaches fox to fly
ATU0221A test: who can fly highest?
Motifs
K1041 crane teaches fox to fly

Notes

Dorson says these are "wellknown Negro stories" and he does have analogues, but he provides not type or motif numbers.

Baer concludes: "Based on the role of Terrapin, it seems to be an American Negro variant of a European tale. It is different enough from 221A that it may be regarded as an indigenous American Negro folktale."
