C140. Baer (p. 134). A Fool for Luck

This is Chase140.

Types
Motifs ATU1890 lucky shot
X1124.3 accidental discharge of gun kills much game
Notes

Swanton has Natchez story

there is 12th century English version (see Baughman for ref?) about shooting both a salmon and a deer

Jones has "Single Ball"

Baer observes: "This European tale lends itself to the American fondness for tall tales since the imagination of the teller provides the only limit on how much game can be brought down or otherwise obtained as a result of a lucky shot."

===========

See Hurston's Every Tongue book for great example of this type

Single Ball is very different kind of story more in the Master-John type!
