Types (J2624 Fright at animal's eyes in the dark)
Motifs
Notes. Baer is not impressed with Thompson and Gerber motifs. Mofokeng has a Mossi analogue: hare wants to marry antelope's daughter, so he must milk a buffalo; he causes buffalo to charge at tree and horn sticks. Johnston has a Hausa example: jackal must milk a bush cow.
For the hare opening eyes wide to avoid being recognized, see Chatelain 31: Hare disguises himself by opening eyes wide in dark to frighten Jackal. Based on Chatelain, Thompson has "J2624 Fright at animal's eyes in the dark" but Baer is not sure if it really applies to this story or not.
