Types (1310 The Crayfish as Tailor)
Motifs K580 captor persuaded into illusory punishment
Notes. This is a variation on the brier-patch. Baer notes "see Chatelain No. 17" (which is Man and Turtle).
Baer: "Kipple, under AT 1310 The Crayfish as Tailor, has three tales in which the captive (in one, jackal; in two, hare) persuades the captor to grab him by the tail and dash him against something only to have the tail come off in the captor's hand, allowing the victim to escape. In all the tales the victim insists he could escape from punishment contemplated by the captor."
