C147. Baer (p. 140). Brother Rabbit's Laughing Place

This is Chase147.

Types ATU0049 bear and honey
K1023 bear and honey

See Chase028 for this type.

On notion of "laughing place," see Antigua tale where "Nancy asks Dog to take him to the place where he laughed so much the night before (in Flowers).

Fauset has Alabama tale: "Brer Fox said, I thought you were goin' to show me you laughin' place." [Fauset is published in 1927, so those are going to go into the public domain in just a few years!]

Baer concludes: "The 'laughing place' story may be a new World Negro variant of AT49 or an independent folktale."
